Car Detailing & Mobile Car Wash – Early Week Specials

If you are starting a mobile car wash and mobile car detailing business, then what you will discover is that most people want the high-end services towards the end of the week. People would prefer to wash their cars on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday. If you are working in an office park or a business or corporation parking lot, there will be no customers on Saturday. So you have to pack your best clientele between Wednesday and Friday, but what about the rest of the week? You still need to support your team when people are busy, right? Hell yeah, so let’s go ahead and talk about this, okay?

In fact, I was asked not long ago if it made sense to apply special pricing during slow weekdays, like the early part of the week, since not many people really want their car cleaned at the beginning or end of the week. The answer to the question is; Yeah! Why, because consumers like to get a good deal and will jump at the chance. It also works because you can use this strategy to help move customers to early week services. So, does it make sense to offer discounts and special offers on those days to improve business? Should you offer coupons, specials and deals?

Certainly, like Staples, Office Depot, or Office Max, people like to get a good deal, and once you have your email, sending special text messages is a cool concept. And, you can get your own app for that eventually by trading someone for a free detail writing apps, you’ll just modify an existing one similar to the ones used by locally run “Groupon-like” services.

In fact, I was also asked what kind of deals one might offer in the early part of the week.

What we did was we offered a Super Deluxe Wax – $25 exterior wash and wax clear coat with tire dressing Monday through Tuesday, or anytime the weather sucks. You just walk in and say;

“Did you want to get the super luxurious wax to protect your car from this nasty weather?” either;
“Today’s special is a Super Deluxe”,

and you’d be surprised people get addicted to those deals, some do it almost every week, their cars finally have so much wax they could scrape the side at the jack-in-the-box drive-thru and you could just power wash or polish the white and yellow paint and it would look like new.

I can tell you this; If you wax the car every week or a couple times a month you can basically hit it with a high pressure washer and all the dirt just falls off without even soaping up the car. That means it can go extremely fast when cleaning. Not to mention, these quick exterior waxes on cars are by far the most profitable of all and you should offer early week specials like that as it increases volume significantly.

Most of our crews were able to wash and wax a car exterior in about 15 minutes using clear coat wax with just two people. I used to be able to do it on my own in most midsize cars, seriously! Imagine if you filled an entire day with your team doing that? That would be a big money day, and even better if it was at the start of the week, the rest of the week is a huge bonus.

Should one keep their prices high all the time if it is a very exclusive place? Well, probably, but heck, I’d have to go count the number of BMW, Range Rover, Mercedes, Maserati and Jag luxury yuppies first. The more silver gray and black cars the better. It might make sense to have a dual menu, one for high-end clientele toward the end of the week, and lower costs in the early part of the week for secretaries who drive Toyotas, Fords, and Hondas. Please consider all this and think about it.
