The city of Siem Reap in Cambodia has many tourist attractions, rich in history and culture, it is so attractive that it takes you to Cambodia. By far the best way to see this country is backpacking, but if you don’t have a backpack on your back, there are still plenty of places around the resorts to lure you into this extraordinary land, this is surely a trip. never forget. The Angkor Temple is one of the most impressive places to visit in Cambodia, inside this temple the walls are carved with Hindu mythology; it is absolutely fascinating even for those who are not religious. The Angkor museum is full of cultural items that represent the civilization and history of its people, in the exclusive gallery there are 1000 Buddha images. The temple grounds at Angkor Thom were built around the 12th century. This inner royal city is just amazing. A few miles from the city is the temple and stupa Wat Thmei, which is a memorial to the death camps near Siem Reap.

Take a walk to the silk farm or one of the Cambodian orphanages where you will see some traditional dances performed by the children, it is a great way to give something back and contribute to the financial support of the orphanages. Before you leave Cambodia you must take an excursion to see the floating village of Kampong Phluk, it is just amazing. If you are fed up with the amazing temples and museums, then you can go to the theater or have a relaxing massage in one of the spas, or maybe go on an ATV tour. Even taking a couple of cooking classes is quite a popular tourist activity and many of the restaurants offer them to tourists in small groups. Prices are very reasonable for tours and excursions in and around the city of Siem, but you will find things much cheaper further into the towns.

Eating

You will have no problem finding a restaurant in Siem Reap, there are hundreds of them. There are entire streets that cater to tourists and sell a variety of snacks and international cuisine. You’ll find everything from fast food pizzas and burgers to the very traditional Cambodian curry. Many restaurants cater for vegetarians and the food is very reasonably priced, in fact very cheap and even the fancier restaurants are very well priced so it doesn’t cost much to eat out. Hotels serve a variety of international foods, but the best way to experience traditional Cambodian cuisine, like a deep-fried hairy tarantula, is in the cities and towns.

Night life

There is quite a lively area in the city with bars and discos. Some of these are western owned and you can have a great night if you have some energy left from all the daytime activities.

Shopping

You won’t be short of gifts and souvenirs to take home; Siem Reap has many small shops selling traditional hand-carved crafts and some beautiful silk items. You can also buy some nice fashion items and many pieces of decorative art.

Beaches

There are no beaches in Siem Reap, but you can travel with one of the local tour companies or rent a car to take you to the nearest beach, which is about 2 hours away.
