Jabalpur is one of the prominent cities in Madhya Pradesh, a state in India. It is also the administrative and educational center that is recognized throughout the country. The name Jabalpur comes from the Arabic word “Jabal” which means mountain, indicating a trade link with Arab countries.

There are many wildlife sanctuaries found in close proximity to the city which attract a huge crowd from all over the world. The city is also called the city of lakes due to the presence of a large number of water bodies. Local residents say with great pride “Taalon mein Taal, Jabalpur ke Taal”. Taal in Hindi means lake and they are very proud to have 52 lakes in their city. The Narmada River runs through the city and gives it a more attractive look.

The city has an incomparable natural beauty and is surrounded by rocky hills of granite and sandstone. The city is located on the main line of the Indian Railways and is therefore well connected to all major cities in the country.

There are many places worth visiting in the city that give a clear idea about the history and contemporary culture of the city. Most of these places have historical significance and show the architecture of the bygone era.

Main attractions in Jabalpur:
The Madan Mahal fort was built by the Gond ruler Raja Madan Shah in 1116. It is located on top of a hill and offers a panoramic view of the city and the adjacent countryside. It rises to an approximate height of 500 meters above the ground and was once the Pleasure Palace of Raja Madan Shah, the son of Rani Durgavati.

But Queen Durgavati had used it as a watchtower and the architecturally designed rooms in front of the main structure were probably used to house the military troops of the rulers who lived here.

Balancing Rocks is one of the wonders of nature and is located in the vicinity of the Madan Mahal Fort. It has one rock balanced on top of the other with only the space of a human finger between the two. This monolith even survived a huge earthquake in the city and did not even move from its place.

The Rani Durgavati Palace and Museum is dedicated to the brave queen of Jabalpur who fought hard against the Mughals during the reign of Akbar. She gave up her life trying to save the city from her being captured. The museum displays a collection of inscriptions, relics, and other items.

Marble rocks are one of nature’s most beautiful gifts to humanity. Pristine white rocks lie in the gorge and rise up to a height of 100 feet on either side of the gently flowing Narmada River. The sun shining and the following reflection is one of the most dazzling sights in the world. They are located in a village called Bhedaghat which is 21 kilometers west of the city of Jabalpur. The most convenient way to enjoy this view is to go by boat riding between them on the river when the water is a little less.

Dhuandhar literally means “Mist Waterfall” in Hindi. It is a picturesque misty waterfall near Bhedaghat. It is also one of the most beautiful and picturesque places in the area. The water of the Narmada River falls to great depths and the roar of the water can be heard miles away from the waterfall. During the rainy season it is in full avalanche and it is dangerous to approach. The best season to visit the place is summer and winter.
