The power of the beginning

“Until one commits, there is hesitation, the possibility of backsliding. Regarding all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elemental truth, ignorance of which kills countless splendid ideas and plans:
that the moment one commits definitively, Providence also moves.

All sorts of things happen to help one that otherwise never would have happened. A whole stream of events arises from the decision, arousing in one’s favour, all manner of incidents and unforeseen meetings and material assistance, which no one could have dreamed would come their way.

Anything you can do, or dream you can do, start. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.” ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

When you commit to a direction or a goal, you begin to focus your energy and attention on it. We know from the law of attraction that whatever we put our energy, focus and attention into, we create. Good or bad. The universe simply responds to our vibration. Your vibration is the result of your thoughts. Commitment to your dream creates excitement. It is a decision and an intention to move forward. It’s what lights you up! This really is powerful.

So if you’re hesitating, what’s stopping you? Here are some common reasons people don’t commit to starting in the direction of their dreams:

1. overwhelm

The task may seem too big when you think about the whole process to accomplish it. It may seem like an exciting dream, but the idea of achieving it is daunting. The good news is that you don’t have to do it all at once! All you need to do is take your first step. That step may just be doing some research on what you’ll need to get started. Just focus on the step in front of you. Even the smallest step brings your subconscious mind and the universe together!

2. Lack of clarity

Confused ideas get confused results. It’s hard to commit to something when you’re not clear on exactly what you want. A great tool for clarity is the Clarity through contrast exercise. Simply make a list of all the things you don’t like about your current situation. Then you take each item on your list and think, “I don’t want that, so what do I want?” Then flip the unwanted item to its opposite. Now you will have a new list with more clarity about what you want. You can test your ideas by volunteering or talking to someone who is doing what you’re interested in doing.

3. It seems too risky financially

I never Recommend to anyone to stop doing what pays the bills before you have a financial cushion or have developed your idea to the point of generating a decent income. Talk to your financial advisor for help. You can build on your goal while still at your current job, if you want to get into an entrepreneurial venture. If you want to change careers and need more training, you can start while you’re still at your current job.

4. It seems too emotionally risky

Are you afraid if you fail and feel ashamed? Or are you afraid of succeeding and losing your friends because of jealousy? True friends will be by your side, whether you “fail” or succeed. Most successful people have failures in their past. They learn from them, adjust and move on. This is your life and you are the one who knows your path best. If you don’t go for what you want, you will never be fully satisfied.

5. Your own inner “demons” say you can’t.

Listen to your internal dialogue. Do you find yourself saying things like “I don’t deserve…” or “I’m just not… enough.” Do not believe everything you think! Just because you have a thought doesn’t make it a reality. What are some other supporting thoughts that are true? Shift your focus to statements like, “I choose to know that I deserve to have…” or “I have decided that I can do this.” Ask yourself motivating questions like, “How can this be done more easily?” Your subconscious mind will join in responding to you. Avoid thoughts like “What if I fail?” Replace them with “What if I succeed?” “What if everything turns out better than I could have imagined?”

6. Fear of limiting your freedom by committing yourself to a certain path

Sometimes we are just afraid to commit to a path. This is especially true if you have many interests and are having trouble deciding between them. The truth is that always looking around and never committing to a direction or goal produces anxiety. It can be unnerving and overwhelming. you flood Once you commit, you are actually freer than if you didn’t. You have a clear path ahead and can put a plan in motion. So what makes your heart sing? what are you Really want? Is there a way to combine certain interests? What are your core values? When you know these things, you are ready to commit. And when you do, you get a surge of energy!

As the Goethe quote says, once you make a decision, the universe sets in motion to support your wishes. There is power in a clear vision and in taking action towards it. Commit to yourself to pursue what you want and hold that vision in front of you with joy, excitement, and faith.

when you queue vibrationally (emotionally) with what you want, the universe will give you what you want. Take the actions that you find enjoyable and that feel like the next logical step. There is no need to push or try to figure out all the steps. Just take the first. The rest will be revealed as it progresses, with the universe providing “all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no person could have dreamed would come their way”.
