Save the environment: buy a hybrid car and save money too

For most of us these days there is so much publicity and news coverage about the Green House Effect that perhaps you have been thinking about how much your car contributes to this and you want to help the environment. Or maybe you’re sick and tired of paying high gas prices and want to buy a car that runs better on gas. Whether you want to help the environment or reduce the amount of fuel you use, the hybrid car is a great solution.

What is a hybrid car?

Hybrid cars are cars that run efficiently on both fuel (typically gasoline) and electric power. The combination of fuel and electric power use makes hybrid cars both environmentally friendly and profitable.

The vast majority of hybrid cars run on two different engines: a gasoline engine and an electric motor. The gasoline engine is responsible for starting and stopping the car, while the electric motor is responsible for making the car move. By using the two engines in this way, the car is not totally dependent on gasoline. This, in turn, reduces environmental pollution and the amount and therefore the cost of gas used.

Hybrid car types

If you have researched hybrid cars on the internet, you have probably seen that there are two types of hybrid cars currently available. These are the series hybrid car and the Parallels hybrid car. There are slight differences between the two types of hybrid cars, which we will look at here.

With the standard type of hybrid car, the gasoline engine is used to start and stop the car. Then when the car reaches a specific speed, the electric motor kicks in automatically. Also, in the series hybrid car type, the gasoline engine is used to charge the batteries of the electric motor. With the standard type of hybrid car, both engines never work together as a team.

The Parallel hybrid, like the Series hybrid, uses a gasoline and electric motor. Although the Parallel and Series hybrids are physically configured similarly, they are clearly different in terms of operation. The big difference is that, in the Parallel Hybrid, both the gasoline and electric engines can be used to start and stop the car. The other difference is that the electric motor in a parallel hybrid is only used to increase the power of the vehicle when necessary. Parallel hybrid cars consume less fuel than series hybrid cars.

How does the hybrid car increase fuel efficiency?

Hybrid cars are made of lightweight materials. Thus, the load on the hybrid car is greatly reduced. Due to the lightweight materials, the car does not require as much fuel to move. In addition, the tires of hybrid cars are firmer than those of normal cars.

Since gasoline burns at a low level in hybrid cars, it produces fewer toxic emissions than those produced by conventional vehicles. Greenhouse emissions, as we mentioned earlier, are a real threat to the environment. Hybrid vehicles, because they release less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, cause much less pollution than normal cars. In fact, some studies have shown that hybrid cars can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to fifty percent and tailpipe emissions by up to ninety percent.

In short, hybrid cars are much cheaper because they consume between fifty and sixty percent less fuel than normal vehicles. In addition, they are very respectful with the environment. The only downside to hybrid cars is that these days they tend to be a bit more expensive than traditional cars to buy initially. However, this will change over time as more people will buy hybrid vehicles due to the benefits and pressures on governments to reduce pollution.
