Have more clothes without spending a penny!

Psst … Do you want to know a secret? You can have a lot more clothes for nothing. Any. Zipper. Any.

But wait … do you really need more clothes in your closet? Probably not. So what I want to share with you is how to get rid of clothes that distract you from all the wonderful things that you already have in your closet, but that you feel like you have a lot more clothes. Ready?

After going into countless closets, I have come to the conclusion that most women have a lot more clothes than they really need. This happens for reasons that I won’t explain here, but let’s say we use the “more is better” approach almost as a security blanket. In a comforting way, it can be comforting to see that you have a closet packed to the brim. The reality, however, is that a gutsy closet actually LIMITS you!

The secret to getting more clothes really lies in getting rid of the clothes. Uh huh. Seriously. I know it sounds crazy, but many clients have told me that after disposing of almost half of what was in their closet, they felt like they had more clothes. Can you believe it?

That’s how:

1 / First, pick out your clothes and get rid of all the ‘shoulds’, those items that you don’t love and don’t really even wear. Release all those items you bought on sale and try to use them with all your might, but never leave the house indoors. Get rid of all those gifts that just weren’t quite right. Lose those pieces that fit you 10 pounds ago, or 10 years. Feel the clarity as you lighten your load. It’s cathartic, to say the least, to ditch what you weren’t really wearing!

2 / Now choose an item that you usually wear in a specific way, for example with your white blouse or black pants. Now ask yourself, what could possibly pair with this that is totally unexpected, but right on target? Feel free to step out of your comfort zone and put things together in a whole new way. Try them on. If it works, you will know right away! If not, you will know it too. By combining things in unexpected ways, you create many more outfits than you originally thought you could and increase your wardrobe exponentially without spending a hundred!

3 / Rinse and repeat. This is not something to do once in a while, but rather a trick that I would like to encourage you to add to your arsenal on a regular basis. It will keep you out of the rut while you control your clothing budget and maximize what you already have!

As the holiday season approaches and you feel the need to go out and spend more than you had planned to update your wardrobe, try this trick. And if you feel something is missing, rinse and repeat. It will keep you out of the rut while you control your clothing budget and maximize what you already have!

As the holiday season approaches and you feel the need to go out and spend more than you had planned to update your wardrobe, try this trick. And if you feel something is missing, by all means add it to your wardrobe. You’ll end up having the right items for you in that multitasking and keeping you looking fabulous, time after time.
