Born in 1985, Bruno Mars, also known as Peter Gene Hernandez, is an American singer, songwriter, and music producer. He was raised in Honolulu Hawaii in a family of musicians and has been involved in music even at a young age. He was one of six children of Pete and Bernadette Hernandez. His father nicknamed him “Bruno” because he was a chubby baby, in honor of a chubby wrestler named Bruno Sammartino. He liked to pose as some of the artists like Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, The Temptations, and The Isley Brothers. In his childhood, he has had various performances in different musical avenues of his hometown and then decided to pursue music as a career.

Bruno Mars began his music career producing songs for different artists when he was on The Smeezingtons production team. He was recognized as a solo artist when he slowed down his voice and after co-wrote the hooks for various songs like BOB’s “nothing on you” and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire.” He has co-written several songs like Flo Rida’s “Right Round” with Kesha and K’naan’s Waving Flag, among others. Her first singing appearance was on Far East Movement’s second studio album. With the success of the songs, Bruno released his extended debut Play called “It’s Better If You Don’t Understand”, which peaked at number 99 on the Billboard 200.

In October 2010, he released his debut album called Doo-Wops & Hooligans, which contained songs like “Just the way you are” and “Grenade”. The album was a success, reaching number three on the Billboard 200. It has also been nominated for seven Grammy Awards at the 53rd Grammy Awards. The song “Just the Way you are” reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and its video was released in September 2010.

In terms of musical style, he is known for being smooth due to the slight falsetto voice. He has also stated that the work he has done with other artists has influenced their musical styles but maintains that he loves all musical genres. Most of his music has a reggae sound that was facilitated by his life in Hawaii.
