Eat this and live! By Don Colbert, M.D.

“Eat this and live!” by Don Colbert, MD is a guide on making simple food choices for a healthier lifestyle. It’s an easy-to-read book with plenty of full-color photos, sidebars, nutritional information, and loads of practical tips on healthy eating. I enjoyed reading it, and although many of the tips and recommendations were familiar to me from reading and living a healthy lifestyle, I still enjoyed this book and found it helpful as we continue to try to eat healthy.

If you’re familiar with Dr. Con Colbert, you know that he wrote the New York Times best-selling book, “The Seven Pillars of Health,” as well as the “Toxic Relief” and Bible Cure series. Colbert includes some Biblical references in this book, but not many. His main focus is food choices for health.

Talk about live food vs. dead food, how your body is a temple, and what the bible says about food in the first three chapters of the book. From then on, it’s all about food and what foods to avoid and what foods to eat.

He writes very clearly and explains why to avoid or why to eat certain foods. Distinguish between the foods that he recommends never eating and those that should be eaten with caution. Drinks and what you should drink are also included.

There are even sections on shopping, storing and preparing food, smart choices when dining out (including specific dishes that are healthier at certain restaurants like Subway, Quiznos, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, Applebee’s, Chili’s, Cracker Barrel, Perkins and some other Really a great little book on eating nutritiously and staying healthy. The colorful design makes it more interesting to read than the plain black and white text, and the sidebars and extras were interesting and helpful.

Overall, it’s a great little book for anyone who wants to eat more nutritious food to feel better and live longer. I plan to check it out from time to time when I’m helping plan healthy meals for our family. Because really, no matter how good a book is, the key is to use Colbert’s advice to eat better, feel better, and live longer.
