Beware the hypnotic scammer

People love to be entertained by fantastic hypnotists who make their subjects dance like the “Chippendales” or sing like Madonna. We see people bark like dogs and crawl like babies. The fun things people will do on stage under hypnosis never seem to let the audience down. The shows are fun.

Well, that was until I went to a seminar where it wasn’t fun anymore.

After the attendees of this particular “wealth” seminar had been hypnotized several times in previous seminars by this hypnotist, I witnessed him go in front of the audience and auction off a one hundred dollar bill ($100.00) and win! $50,000.00!

Yes, my zeros are correct. . . Fifty thousand dollars for a hundred dollar bill.

Who would do something so ridiculous? Who would pay $50,000.00 for a hundred dollar bill?

It could be, just maybe. . . someone who was “hypnotized” and fed the correct hypnotic phrases?

Hmm!

“We’re going to play a game now, and this is how the game goes.” The hypnotist started.

“I’m going to offer this hundred-dollar bill to the highest bidder. But the problem is this: the two highest bidders have to pay, but only the highest bidder gets the hundred-dollar bill.”

What what? Who would go for something so ridiculous? Are you saying that if I’m the second highest bidder, I have to pay and get absolutely nothing?

Oh yeah! So goes the game!

Hmm!

I remember yelling something like “$10.00!” Then I heard “$500.00!”

The voice in my head was screaming: People! Hello! It’s a hundred dollar bill! What are you doing?

I then sat back and watched the scene unfold.

The bid was higher and higher. The Auctioneer/Mesmer actually had to stop the bidding because it got out of hand.

All I can tell you is that this Auctioneer/Mesmer made $50,000.00 on his hundred dollar bill. . . that’s where he stopped the bidding. (Oh! By the way… The Auctioneer/Mesmer was nice enough to give the two highest bidders $100.00 after he demanded they pay!)

Hmm!

I know you’re saying, “No, Karen! She made over $50,000.00 . . . remember the highest two people ever had to pay!”

I know. I’m pretty good at math. I said he only won $50,000.00 because I suspect that perhaps one of those highest bidders was a plant. Just maybe. . . Although I can’t be sure. He repeatedly asked me: “Why do the two (2) highest bidders in the game have to pay?”

Hmm!

To understand how this hypnotist was able to pull off this scam, I suggest you read Robert B. Cialdini’s book, Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion.

With the same goal as me, diluting the effectiveness of the con man’s venomous poison, one of the things that Robert Cialdini brilliantly explains is how people can be fooled in auction settings.

Cialdini tells a true story of how even a top network executive got punched at an auction for the movie “The Poseidon Adventure,” and after catching his breath, this top executive made the statement that his network would never go in again. in a business. auction status.

Now, let me put your computer skills to the test.

Add this for me:

A perfect auction environment for a scam

More

An audience full of people who allowed themselves to be hypnotized by the Auctioneer/Mesmer. . .

What do you get?

Hmm!

All I can say is that the Auctioneer/Mesmer WON at least $50,000.00 for his hundred dollar bill!

Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion is definitely a book con artists and scammers don’t want you to read. This book will definitely give you power over them!
