As the Pendulum Swings – The Mind-Brain Connection by Lindsay A Brady

Finding the connection that connects peace of mind and joy of consciousness

“As the Pendulum Swings” is the true life story of Lindsay A. Brady. Brady is a nationally recognized clinical hypnotherapist. The book is divided into two parts. The first part tells of Brady’s early interest in hypnosis and her curiosity regarding the mind/brain connection. He talks about his search for answers to unresolved questions and how she overcame her lack of confidence, her inhibitions, her school deficits and her low self-perception.

Brady uses sketches as illustrative case studies to help the reader understand the process and goals of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. She explains how “perceptionism” is the force in hypnotherapy. Brady describes how she developed an approach to help her clients overcome their self-destructive behaviors.

The second part explores his theory behind hypnosis and the influences that led to his conclusions. He talks about perception, regression and altered consciousness. Brady shares illustrations of “conversations” held in his own “inner room.” He talks about drawing on the wisdom of conversations with an inner wisdom that he called “Socrates.”

The book includes a comprehensive appendix with detailed information on the structure of a typical perception session, the influence of perception, the nervous system, and muscular behavior. It also provides information on how to eliminate the difficulties of stress and anxiety. I appreciated the excellent bibliography that includes available book and course resources.

Brady is intellectually stimulating. His writing is fast and hilarious. The self-deprecating humor of him hides the true genius of him. He is highly entertaining, rich with deep insight and understanding in the areas of consciousness and self-actualization.

“As the Pendulum Swings” is a welcome addition to the reading list or library of anyone interested in investigating the “mind/brain” connection. It is worth it, stimulating and entertaining.
