The site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party. For a glimpse of China’s recent history, and indeed its current lifestyle and culture, no trip to Shanghai is complete without stopping by to say hello to the guys who worked under Chairman Mao. The Party site was opened as a public building to receive visitors only 50 years ago and has since received millions of visitors. The building is a kind of museum, as it presents genuine artifacts that were used by members of the Communist Party under Mao and in fact, there is a wax model of a Party meeting in full session with a doll of Mao himself presiding over the proceedings . . A fascinating part of Chinese history.

Yu Yuan Gardens. Shanghai is home to some simply beautiful Chinese gardens and they are generously distributed throughout the city. Yu Yuan Gardens are located in the southwest of Shanghai and close to the famous Bund promenade, making them the ideal place to relax after a stroll along the river. Yu Yuan Gardens were installed by the Ming Dynasty authorities about 4 centuries ago and they look perfectly authentic to this day. Visitors to the park can relax in the serenity of the gardens and lakes, gaze at some of the most famous jade sculptures in all of China, and lose themselves in the garden’s famous maze of pavilions.

Speaking of the Bund, this is one of the most famous attractions that Shanghai has to offer. The Bund is the ancient waterfront walkway that winds along the eastern bank of the Huangpu River and takes the walker past many of Shanghai’s most famous buildings and monuments. While the walk loops through the city’s financial district, it somehow manages to avoid the feeling of walking through traffic, and is a relaxing and enjoyable way to see Shanghai. The ideal way to lazily return to your hotel in Shanghai after a day of sightseeing.

After you have done your sightseeing, you may want to get some souvenirs for people back home, and Nanjing Road is the ideal place to do so. The street is the main commercial district of Shanghai and has more than 600 outlets, shops and department stores.
