The real difference between marketing and advertising

They sound similar but in reality they are not.

Most people believe that Marketing and Advertising are the same. The fact is that they are not. What is known as advertising is only one part of the whole game, which is marketing. Marketing includes the complete development of a brand, starting with research and then continuing with design, advertising, selling, etc. Advertising is considered a part of the entire marketing process, which sends the message through various media to promote a product.

Advertising is one of the most important components.

Advertising is undoubtedly the most important component of the marketing strategy, at the same time it is the most expensive. Advertising consists of sending the message to an audience about a company, services or products. At the same time, advertising represents the process of working behind the scenes, which includes developing various strategies and methods to finally capture the attention of a target audience. These strategies include planning for various actions such as: buying ads, deciding where to buy ad space, the media to be used, timing, frequency, and various other factors. The media used to place advertising are the following: mail, newspapers, television, internet, email, magazine flyers, billboards, etc. Television is considered the most popular, although the Internet is the fastest growing.

Think of marketing as the whole pie.

An excellent approach to distinguishing between marketing and advertising is to view marketing as a whole pie and advertising as a piece of a pie. Some other pieces of the pie are: product design, product pricing, customer satisfaction, market research, sales, etc. These pieces of the pie are expected to work independently, but at the same time as a whole, to achieve a much bigger goal. To illustrate this, we can think of the sales process as a specific process and, at the same time, build the reputation of the company involved in a specific market. In this way, marketing can be seen as a marathon process, involving several tasks that require several hours or even days of research. This research is the most time-consuming marketing process. The reason for this is related to the fact that it involves the profound underestimation of the way people behave towards a specific product. Two other time-consuming items are product design and developing an advertising strategy. The components that require much less time are: ad execution and sales. Similarly, marketing can be viewed as a medium between the consumers of the product and the company.

Companies often make the mistake of confusing advertising with marketing.

More often than not, businesses, especially new ones, make the mistake of confusing the two. What they do is compete with large renowned advertising companies, ignoring what is behind it. To illustrate this, we can think of a logo. For several entrepreneurs, the logo represents the most important factor of the company in its advertisements. They have the belief that a better logo will bring more sales. It is true that the logo is good, only if the reputation behind a company is good, in other words, the reputation of a company makes the logo. It is imperative that the record reflect the values of the company. It is important to note that these large companies invest a lot of capital in advertising, new companies cannot afford to do the same. Based on this, the most important thing is to invest money and time in establishing communication with consumers. The message should tell consumers that the company understands their needs. It’s about educating consumers, it’s about letting them know that the company knows what it’s doing and is the best at it.

Smart salespeople take an aggressive rather than a passive approach.

Smart marketers have the ability to really tease the minds of readers by suggesting that they take certain actions, rather than just telling them of the product’s existence. They also know how to bring contacts (including names, addresses, and phone numbers) to the company who are interested in using the company’s services. They do this by using what is known as aggressive marketing. Here is the key to a good marketing campaign, it definitely talks a lot about a specific company and the services and products it offers, so advertising is what gives the special touch to that hard work that marketing professionals did.
