Replacement Discs for Guitar Hero 3 on Wii in 2008 – Activision Fixes Monkey Bug

After the release of Guitar Hero 3, consumers began to notice a major problem with the Wii version of Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock. Players began to report that the sound quality was set to mono and there were no stereo options within the game, preventing many players from “balancing” properly. Now that Activision is aware of the issues, which likely have something to do with the thousands of angry fans sending hate messages, they are currently working to fix the issue.

The bad news is that for some reason they can’t fix this with a patch, but the good news is that they have announced that they will be running a program that will offer free replacement discs for Wii starting in 2008. Good!

Rhy-Ming Poon, Activision spokesperson: “We recently realized that some consumers have not been able to enjoy the full audio output on the Nintendo Wii version of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. We are currently working with Nintendo and they plan to to offer an enhanced audio experience in future versions of the game. We expect to have remastered discs available in early 2008 and will offer consumers free replacement discs when they become available. “

While it’s surprising to me that such a high-profile game, based entirely on good-sounding music, could walk out the door and have a feature like this overlooked. At least in the end, Activision has decided to do the right thing; step up, admit your mistake, and replace everyone’s disks at no cost. So make sure if you own Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock for Wii, you’ll get your replacement discs when the Activisions replacement disc program begins in 2008.
