Yes, today is April Fools’ Day, but that doesn’t mean you should be a marketing dummy today (or any other day)! In my opinion, the biggest marketing mistakes are made in tracking. Are you being a marketing dummy or are you a marketing genius?

Let me give you 2 examples of how marketing dummies and marketing geniuses do things differently in their follow-up … and how you can be a marketing genius!

Example 1:

Marketing suckers spend all their money in one place. Think of the Super Bowl ads. Sure, big companies can do this (even if they’re still dumb), but you and I can’t. Spending our money in one place is dangerous.

Think about it … how many things have you bought after seeing it ONCE? I bet you can count purchases in ONE hand. This is why spending our marketing dollars in one place is a bad idea. Buyers need consistency to trust you … and to actually see / hear your offering.

That’s why … Marketing geniuses spend their marketing money in multiple places with the same marketing message. Again, buyers need consistency. They need repetition.

Think of yourself as a buyer. Don’t you buy after listening to a message several times?

Also, think about where you hear marketing messages. Aren’t you more likely to buy a widget if you’ve heard about it on the radio, in email, on TV, and from a friend? The more places you hear about it / see it, the higher the chances that you will want it.

Wherever your market is! This is how marketing geniuses play!

Example 2:

Marketers spend their time designing pretty ads and messages that grab the attention of their potential customers. Think large or multiple images and small copies (text). Think in full color. Think of the attention and not the response … no action after viewing the message.

You see, when you use marketing like this, it doesn’t stand out! Every fool is marketing this way … and there are more fools than geniuses … so if you look like the others, don’t you mix? Duh! Of course yes.

That’s why … Marketing geniuses spend their time designing engaging messages and offers that attract potential customers to their website. This is known as direct response marketing. This is what geniuses wear.

You don’t want to leave your marketing to chance. You want to attract your potential customer and keep them. How do you do it? With words on paper !!!

Sure, the visuals are involved, but not as the main attraction. You have to be different. When most other entrepreneurs use pictures and few words … go in the opposite direction. Few pictures and tons of words.

This will not only attract people … it will also allow you to offer them something of value. This is where the marketing geniuses get the potential customer to act. You have to get a response from the potential customer. The more they get involved … the more they buy.

Final note: NOW is the time to follow up more than ever. In this recessionary economy, you will find that most entrepreneurs fail … and some succeed.

Remember my words, the entrepreneurs who market and follow up the most NOW will be the successful ones … they will be the entrepreneurs of the future!

The question is: will you be one of them?
